PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides:

A fatty mixture of glycerides, mainly derived from plant oils such as Coconut Oil.  A quick penetrating and light-weight emollient, used for its skin conditioning and smoothing properties. We use this emollient at a 1.5% ratio in our shampoo.

Being there is much concern over the use of PEGs in skincare, i would like to put your mind at ease. To begin with, let me just quote a few studies:

“Overall, it is concluded, that the PEGs covered in this review are safe for use in cosmetics under the present conditions of intended use… Taking into account all the information available, it can be assumed that these compounds as presently used in cosmetic preparations will not present a risk for human health.”

Source: “Safety assessment on polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and their derivatives as used in cosmetic products,” Toxicology and Preclinical Affairs, 2005.

"Studies have NOT shown PEGs  [propylene or the other glycols as used in cosmetics] to be carcinogens"
Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, within the Public Health Services Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

The main concern with PEGs is that they are not always pure.  About 50% of PEGs are contaminated with ethylene oxide and/or 1,4-dioxane. However, responsible manufacturers do remove these impurities by a process known as "vacuum stripping."

Please be assured that our PEG-150 and PEG-6 (the only PEGs we use) go through the vacuum stripping process to ensure they do NOT contain ethylene oxide, 1,4 dioxane or any other toxins. We receive a spec sheet from the manufacturer stating these toxins have been 100% removed.
